Fault Indicator IK-20S, type 1

IK-20S Fault Indicators with the NS-20 Voltage Sensors and SS-30 Current Sensors are used for detecting and indicating ground fault and short circuit in grounded and isolated medium voltage overhead grids (single and double disconnecting switches). Unconventional voltage sensors and unconventional current sensors are used as fault detectors. The Voltage Sensors NS-20 are of a capacitive type and are distributed in disconnecting switches insulators and fault indicators. The Current Sensors SS-30 are of an inductive type and are mounted on the disconnecting switches insulators . The sensors are connected to the preamplifier located in the IK-20S Fault Indicator. Detection of short circuits is based on current measurement by means of current sensors, and detection of a directed ground fault is determined by transient analysis of residual current and voltage.

When the fault occurs, the sensors and the fault indicator detect, signal, and register the fault before the defective transmission line is shut down by protection. The IK-20S Fault Indicator indicates the type of failure and direction of fault locally on the LCD and LED elements and sends this information remotely via a GSM / GPRS unit, a radio modem or, for example, the Remote Terminal DT-20RN to the control center. Based on this information and the SCADA system in the center it is very easy to determine the location of the fault, isolate the defective location, establish a new power supply structure and arrange a quick line repair. By measuring the voltage and current and communication connection between the UST-10Gc and the IK-20S, it is possible to realize the functions of automatic network reconfiguration, i.e. selective insulation of the failure during the auto reclose pause. The device parameterization (defining ground fault current and short circuit current, reset mode and reset time, indicator trip time, etc.) is performed very easily with alphanumeric LCD and keypad or laptop computer.
