Fault Indicator IK-5

IK-5 Fault Indicator is used for detection and indication of the ground fault and short circuit in the grounded grids, i.e. in the substations 10 (20) / 0,4 kV with or without remote control. The IK-5 Fault Indicator is located in the medium voltage switchgear and consists of a local panel (1 pc / feeder) and a detectors (3 pcs / feeder). Unconventional current sensors are used as fault detectors.

Depending on the magnitude of the ground fault current, two fault detection methods are used (fig. 2 and 3). If the ground fault current is greater than 20A, the mode A (fig. 2) is used, i.e., one SS-10 sensor is mounted on each of the three phase cables. When a higher sensitivity is required, i.e. for the ground fault currents less than 20A, mode B (fig. 3) is used, that is, two SS-10 sensors are mounted on two of the phase cables, and the SS-20 type sensor includes all three phase cables.

In the event of a fault, the sensors and the Fault Indicator detect, indicate, and register the fault before the power line is switched off. Fault indicator IK-5 Indicates the type of fault (short circuit or ground fault) and the fault location (feeder) locally on the LED elements of the front panel. In the event of a fault, in addition to the local fault indication on the panel, there is a possibility (optional) of the installation of additional signalling with the SL-10 Signal Lamp (on the outer wall of the substation) which is easily visible even from a greater distance. Parameterization of the device (definition of the ground fault and short circuit current, mode and time of the reset, indicator trip time, etc.) is performed very easily using DIP switches. If it is required, apart from local and remote indication of failure and continuous measurement of current, it is possible to connect the IK-5 Fault Indicators in a communication link with remote measuring and signalling devices. Depending on the degree of complexity of the medium voltage grid, fault indicators can be used in substations without remote control or with remote monitoring and signalling devices such as, for example, LT-10, DT-10TS, etc. For insulated cable grids, IK-20 Fault Indicators are used.

  • ground fault (Io) and short circuit (I>>) detection on the feeder in the grounded grid
  • indication of fault type (Io or I>>)
  • two types of sensors (SS-10 and SS-20) depending on the ground fault sensitivity
  • very simple parametrization with DIP switches as needed on site
  • own uninterrupted power supply from the auxiliary voltage supply
  • remote measurement of current and fault signaling by LT-10 Local Terminal
  • small dimensions allow direct installation into the medium voltage switchgear
  • the combination of the IK-5 Fault Indicator in the LT-10 Local Terminal and the IK-10 Fault Indicator in the DT-10S Remote Terminals provide the ability to quickly detect a fault location, reconfigure the grid, repair the fault, i.e. increased grid availability
